Jamie Celebrates
Backline’s Bridgwater branch is proud to announce more training success with yet another of its core drivers passing their class 1 practical test.
Jamie Makin, one of the Bridgwater office core drivers was recently identified as a prime candidate to benefit from the Backline Elite Driver training programme. The objective of this scheme is to support field staff in their career development and to introduce them to new skills that require specific qualification. In addition, this upskilling enables them to be placed with Backline clients where the newly acquired skills can be used in a commercial environment.
Jamie joined Backline in April 2018 as a rigid driver with no practical experience but a great attitude and the enthusiasm to match. He was placed into a local Backline client who accommodate newly passed drivers. From that day his journey into the transport industry had begun. Amy Manson, Bridgwater Branch Manager said
“Since Jamie has joined the team, he has excelled in everything we have placed him into. We then trained him on HIAB through the Backline training department and since then he has continually impressed us with the great reports from all of our builder’s merchant customers. Backline’s investment into putting Jamie through his class 1 was the next natural progression. This will see him be earning higher hourly rates and driving artics for Backline clients. Well done from all of the team Jamie!”
Backline recognises that engaging with younger applicants and helping them progress through the transport sector is vital when addressing the logistics skills shortage. The path to success can seem daunting but with Backline continuing to support newcomers to the industry, this challenge is being met for those who have the right approach and ambition.
