DON’T GET COMPLACENT WITH COMPLIANCE

Driver CPC Approved

To keep your Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) you must carry out 35 hours of training within a five-year period to maintain your bus, coach, or HGV driver’s licence.

For many drivers that five year period will expire in 2024, and while that’s still two years away, with the shortage of CPC facilitators plus the increasingly high demand for HGV drivers, now is not the time to get complacent and put off the inevitable – plan ahead and get your dates pre-booked.

Backline has already added new Driver CPC Training dates in the diary until January 2023 so that you can avoid the last-minute panic of potentially losing half your workforce for five days while they complete their training.

“As the past two years in lockdown have taught us, anything is possible and not everything is avoidable. However, if you know that your drivers need to retake their CPC training before a certain date then it makes sense to pre-book your training dates to ensure it doesn’t affect other areas of your business,” said Richard Stentiford, Head of Training Division at Backline.

“By planning ahead you eliminate the worry of losing drivers for five days and you remove the stress of having to replace those drivers with temporary drivers. Plus, you won’t have to rush around trying to find a training facilitator with dates available before their licences are revoked completely,’ added Richard.

CPC Periodic Training involves predominantly classroom-based training, but can be incorporated into practical training such as our Fork Lift Truck, Lorry Mounted Crane, First Aid or ADR courses.

“Our CPC Training courses take place over five days and are split into two 3.5 hour sessions. During the morning sessions we focus more on the driver, looking at their hours, wellbeing and basic first aid, whereas in the afternoon we focus more on the vehicle, looking at digital tachographs, vehicle safe loading and safe and efficient driving,” added Richard.

Other modules can also be added into the CPC training course, depending on the delegates in attendance. Specific content can be covered during the 5-day training course, simply request this when you book your course.

By pre-booking your drivers CPC training this far in advance you have the luxury of choosing dates that work well for your drivers and your organisation, rather than choosing from the dates available.
