ADR
ADR, sometimes referred to as HazMat (hazardous materials), covers the carriage of dangerous goods. It is an international agreement and and it is a legal requirement for drivers carrying “in-scope” loads to hold a certificate of training.

We are able to offer ADR training nationally (including the Highlands & Islands) but run regular “open” courses in Cornwall, Plymouth, Exeter, Yeovil, Bridgwater and Bristol (Avonmouth). A full list of scheduled courses can be found below.

Good To Know

Our overall ADR pass rate (as of February 2020) is 98.4%

If you are not looking for full ADR, we can cater for individual classes, or for candidates looking for just Tanks or Packages.

We provide ADR courses for as few as one or up to 20 candidates at any one time. ADR training courses cater for any combination of the following classes in packages, tanks or both:

ADR Classes
Hazardous goods are separated into nine classes, according to the ‘primary hazard’ that they represent. Products often represent multiple hazards and so may also have secondary hazard classes. When carrying in-scope loads, the driver will require an ADR training certificate for the classes relating to the primary hazard that the product poses.
ADR Class 1
Explosives. Backline do not currently offer training for explosives.
ADR Class 2
Gasses. These come under three categories: flammable, non-flammable (asphyxiants) and toxic.
ADR Class 3
Flammable Liquids.
ADR Class 4
Flammable non-liquids. Again, this class is broken down into sub-categories. Simply put, these are products and substances that react dangerously when exposed to heat, oxygen or water.
ADR Class 5
Organic peroxides and oxidising agents. These products are typically not in themselves hazardous, but can contribute to creating combustible atmospheres or accelerating a fire that has already ignited.
ADR Class 6
Toxic and infectious substances.
ADR Class 7
Radioactives. Backline do not currently offer training for radioactives.
ADR Class 8
Corrosives.
ADR Class 9
Miscellaneous. Products and substances that do not fit into the other eight categories will be included in Class 9. E.g. lithium-ion batteries, asbestos etc.

As a JAUPT approved consortium member, we are also able to include Driver CPC hours with your ADR training. This can be up to 28 hours in total depending on the course you select. If you book your ADR training online, we’ll include your CPC hours free of charge!
